13 Reasons Why plans for season 2

In an earlier post, I commented on the fact that the 2007 novel 13 Reasons Why was made into a Netflix series. The series went on to be a huge hit and became the most tweeted about Netflix series all year. The ending wasn't exactly satisfying, however I felt the book had been done a justice. The fact that a new season is coming out is slightly concerning for someone like me who read the book back when it first came out. What will this new season be like?

The New York Times put out an article about the new season. The article was rather short and served as more of a news announcement than insight into the new season. They started off their article with statistics on season one and then went into the reason behind season two with a quote from creator Brian Yorkey. He said "Hannah's story isn't over-- she has parents who still don't have the complete story."

ABC also put out on article on the television show. This article seemed to offer more insight on what season two would be about. They also included quotes from Yorkey. One of those being "One of the things that is still hanging out there is the question of, is someone responsible for Hannah's death?" He went on to say "One way we'll explore that question is through the trial and also through all of these kids reflecting on where they are a few months down the road and what other secrets are being uncovered."

While this news might be exciting for avid watchers of the popular Netflix series, I worry that season two will distract from Jay Asher's original story. She ended the book where she did on purpose and I don't think it's fair or right to capitalize on her story for the sake of making money.
