"Jagged Little Pill" turned into a musical
Alanis Morissette's 1995 album Jagged Little Pill will be coming to the stage in May of 2018. Morissette has been working with Tony-winning director Diane Paulus and Juno-writer Diablo Cody will be writing a book for the musical. The New York Times posted an article on the upcoming musical. Their article gave a lot of basic facts on the musical but also added some facts about Paulus and The American Repertory Theater, which is where the musical will be staged. The NYT wrote about the theater's upcoming season saying "Ms. Paulus will direct "The White Card", a world premier play by the poet and essayist Claudia Rankine" and "In December the theater will stage the troupe Bedlam's adventurous adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility." While they did give basic facts, I felt as though the article focused more on the theater than Morissette's musical.
Entertainment Weekly also published an article about the singer/songwriter's musical. Their article was more about the musical itself than the theater it was being performed in. Entertainment Weekly gave a brief synopsis of the musical saying " [The] story [is] revolving around 'a modern and multi-generational family and their complex dynamics, touching on issues of gender and race identity.'" It also included quotes from Cody who said "I am so excited to tell a modern story through these iconic songs."
The musical will feature songs like "Ironic", "You Oughta Know", and "Hand in My Pocket". It will feature mainly songs from Jagged Little Pill, but other songs from Morissette's repertoire as well.
